VolunTeens Backpack Snack Attack

“Food security” means having access at all times to enough food for an active, healthy life. Are you aware that there are families in Barton County who do not enjoy food security? The VolunTeens at About Our Kids not only are aware of this, but they decided to do something about it as well.

The Backpack Snack Attack was started in 2011 to meet the needs of the hungry in the community by providing children with nutritious and easy-to-prepare food they need over the course of the weekend.

The VolunTeens volunteer once a month to help the local Snack Attack team. They spend about an hour following a list and using careful packing instructions to put together about 95 packages of nonperishable food items, which are then distributed to students in need every Friday through Barton County schools.

The Backpack Program is not the only way that the VolunTeens help their community. VolunTeens also deliver Meals on Wheels over Christmas break, Spring Break and summer vacation. They collect and recycle aluminum cans in order to learn about helping the environment and bring additional funding in for Nathan’s Place. The VolunTeens truly are a great bunch of kids who really strive to make a positive difference in their community.

If you would like to help the VolunTeens in their efforts, there are plenty of ways that you can assist. You can also donate money to the program right on the AOK website. Whether you can afford to donate a little or a lot, any money you can give to help cover the cost of running the program is always greatly appreciated.
